Game of Thrones Tour

 

Day 1 – Dublin Airport to Newcastle

Arrive in Dublin Airport and you are met by your Eirebus driver.  You are transferred to your hotel in Newcastle Co. Down Northern Ireland.

Travel to Newcastle where you will stay for 3 nights at the Slieve Donard Hotel.  The hotel is set on 6-acre grounds overlooking the Irish Sea and proud home of the Door of Thrones No 3. 

Stop off at Tollymore Forest which is the setting for the Haunted Forest and also where the Starks found their Direwolves in season 1.

Dinner will be served in The Percy French Restaurant home to the Door of Thrones No. 3.  The intricately carved Door of Thrones 3 depicts the demise of Rickon Stark’s Direwolf, Shaggydog, the 3 eyed raven and the rise of House Greyjoy’s family crest - the Kracken.

Overnight at Sileve Donard Hotel or similar.

   

Day 2 – Newcastle - Doors of Thrones 1 & 2 Discovery - Newcastle

Full Irish Breakfast at your hotel. 

Today travel a short distance Northeast wards to discover the Doors of Thrones 1 & 2.

You will travel past Castle Ward, which overlooks the beautiful Strangford Lough, may be more familiar as Winterfell and was used for pivotal scenes in season one. Inside this beautiful 820 acre walled demesne you will find the spectacular house, an exotic sunken garden and a haunting woodland. Audley’s Field within this demesne was used in Season 2: Episode 4.

Travel to The Cuan, a family run restaurant and guest house in the picturesque seaside village of Strangford, home to Door of Thrones no. 1.

Next we take a short ferry crossing (approx. 10 minutes) across Strangford Lough to Portaferry.

Visit Quintin Bay the spot near Castle Stokeworth in the Crownlands where Jaime Lannister goes to find Bronn and persuade him to accompany him to Dorne.

Continue to Fiddlers Green Pub famous for its character and charm and see Door of Thrones no. 2.

Following your visit return to your hotel.

   

Day 3 – Newcastle

Full Irish Breakfast at your hotel. 

Today is free at leisure.

 

Day 4 – Newcastle - Belfast

Full Irish Breakfast at your hotel. 

Today depart Newcastle and travel Northwards to Belfast.  Stop at the Dark Horse coffee house nestled along a narrow cobbled alleyway in the historic Cathedral Quarter area of Belfast and see Door of Thrones no. 10.

Enjoy an orientation tour of Belfast and then enjoy a visit of one of Europe’s most visited sites: The Titanic Centre.   

Overnight at the Merchant Hotel or similar.

   

Day 5 –Belfast City

Full Irish Breakfast at your hotel. 

You are provided with tickets for the public hop-on hop off bus tour of Belfast.  This fun and friendly 90-minute tour is complete with live commentary.  Stops along the tour route include: Titanic Belfast, Titanic dock & Pump House, Parliament Buildings, Belfast City Hall, Falls Road, Falls Memorial Garden, Shankill Memorial Garden, Crumlin Road and Donegall Street.

In the afternoon you will enjoy some free time.

 

Day 6 – Belfast – Antrim Coast - Doors of Thrones 8 & 9 Discovery - Belfast

Full Irish Breakfast at your hotel. 

Today travel northeast wards along the picturesque Antrim coast – the scenery here is truly spectacular and discover Door of Thrones 8 & 9. 

Stop at the Ballygally Castle Hotel overlooking the sandy beaches of Ballygally Bay and home to Door of Thrones no. 9.

The serene countryside of Cairncastle in Larne, County Antrim has played host to some of the most memorable scenes in Game of Thrones® history such as in Season 1: Episode 1 and also The Neck on the road to Moat Cailin in Season 5: Episode 3. A location near Glenariff in the Glens of Antrim is used for Runestone in Season 5: Episode 1

Continue further northwards to Cushendun and stop at Mary McBrides Bar to see Door of Thrones no. 8.  Travel a short distance for a photo stop at Cushendun Caves used in 2: Episode 4 as a cove in the Stormlands.

Return to Belfast for final overnight.

   

Day 7 – Belfast – Giant’s Causeway - Derry

Full Irish Breakfast at your hotel. 

First stop is The Dark Hedges a beautiful avenue of beech trees, planted by the Stuart family in the eighteenth century. Two hundred years later, they remain a magnificent sight and have become one of the most photographed natural phenomena in Northern Ireland after being shown in Season 2: Episode 1 as the Kingsroad. 

Travel a short distance to Gracehill House to see Door of Thrones no. 7.

Continue further north to Fullerton Arms licensed guest house, in Ballintoy to see Door of Thrones no. 6.  Next enjoy photo stop at Ballintoy Harbour, this stunning location has become synonymous with Pyke and the Iron Islands in Season 2 and was also represented as Dragonstone in Season 4: Episode 2. Larrybane bay is one of the most sheltered and scenic locations along the Causeway Coast.

Next travel to Giants Causeway:  The ancients believed that this spectacular rock formation was the work of the giant Finn McCool, the Ulster warrior and commander of the king of Ireland’s armies. 

Transfer to Derry for overnight.

Overnight at the Derry City Hotel or similar.

 

Day 8 – Derry – Bushmills – Downhill Beach – Limavady - Derry

Full Irish Breakfast at your hotel.

This morning visit the oldest whiskey distillery in the world:  Old Bushmills Distillery Here you will learn about whiskey making which has had its tradition here for over 400 years ago.  At the end of your tour, you will also have the opportunity of tasting the home made whiskey.

Travel to Downhill Beach a 11km stretch of sand and surf which was used in Season 2: Episode 1 as Dragonstone.  This magnificent location is home to Mussenden – a tiny temple perched dramatically on a 120ft cliff top, high above the Atlantic Ocean.  You will also visit Binevenagh marks the western extent of the Antrim Plateau and was the shooting location for the Dothraki Grasslands in Season 5: Episode 10.

Stop off at Frank Owens Bar, in Limavady to see Door of Thrones no. 5.

Return to Derry rest of the day free to relax or explore some more.

 

Day 9 – Derry – Enniskillen – Dublin

Full Irish Breakfast at your hotel.

Before leaving Derry today enjoy a walking tour of the city:  Your tour will take in all the main sights along the one-mile circuit, including the original Gates - Shipquay, Butcher, Bishop and Ferryquay. The Walls are among the best preserved city fortifications in the Western World. They rise to a height of 8m (26ft) and in places are 9m (30ft) wide. Completed in 1618 to defend the Plantation city, the walls have never been breached in three major sieges - even during the 105-day siege of 1689 when 7,000 of the 30,000 population died of starvation. 

Leaving Derry travel southwest to Enniskillen stop at Blakes of The Hollow one of the most famous and well recognised Victorian pubs in Ireland and home to Door of Thrones no. 4.

Continue southeast wards to Dublin.

Overnight at the Royal Marine Hotel or similar.


   

Day 10 – Dublin

Full Irish Breakfast at your hotel.

You are provided with tickets for the hop-on hop off tour of Dublin.  This fun and friendly 90minute tour is complete with live commentary.  Stops along the tour route include: Trinity College, The Guinness Storehouse, Dublin Castle, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Kilmainham Gaol and the Old Jameson Distillery.

After lunch, you will enjoy some free time.

Overnight in your Hotel in Dublin.

   

Day 11 – Dublin

Full Irish Breakfast at your hotel.

Today is free at leisure.

Day 12 – Dublin

Early continental breakfast at your hotel or boxed breakfast depending on flight times.

Private transfer to Dublin Airport and bid farewell to the Emerald Isle.
